Company Profile
Global publicly-listed manufacturer of paper and packaging solutions, a leading provider of corrugated, consumer, and specialty packaging serving major brands and manufacturers across food and beverage, consumer products, healthcare, and industrial markets. Tens of thousands of employees worldwide operating across multiple continents.
Challenge
Manual shortfall processing causes delays
When a customer receives a partial shipment, the manufacturer records the order as a shortfall to free up raw materials for other orders. To record these details, customer service reps must update the order status and order details across different systems. This approach resulted in processing delays and distraction from higher-value activities.
Leadership wanted a solution to process shortfall orders that could scale to meet high-demand periods quickly.
Solution
Automated shortfall order processing
Each day the automation solution receives a list of production and sales order shortfalls. It examines the data and determines which cases can be processed via automation and which should be handed back to the customer service team. Then the automation connects to the supply chain management (SCM) software to update the actual order volume received as well as the order status. Finally, the automation sends daily reports to team leaders.
The solution standardized the order shortfall process by running all changes through the same SCM. The solution processed over 190,000 shortfall orders, saving $250k+ annually and over 5,000 hours of manual work.
