Challenge

Over $7 billion in inventory is processed in its many distribution centers throughout the year. This perishable product requires careful handling and special storage. Unfortunately, sometimes inventory would be coded incorrectly due to human error in a busy environment. When coding errors are caught late, the product must be either sold at distressed prices or worse destroyed. Management wanted to find product coding errors earlier and eliminate them in order capture revenue that would otherwise be lost.

Solution

Every morning before the workday begins, the solution employs user-defined rules to identify mislabeled products. Thereafter, it alerts distribution center and supply planning personnel who quickly correct the inventory. The digital worker can check more applications more frequently and process more data than was routinely handled by the human team. The automation freed the process owner from identifying routine exceptions to perform additional investigations and find more opportunities of improvement.
